Podcasting
What is podcasting?
"Podcasting is an exciting new audio medium that gives you the freedom to listen to the audio programming of your choice...What's even more exciting is that the Podcasting Revolution, as it has been termed, enables you to subscribe to, store, and consume this audio content when and where you please. Podcasters don't have to make advertisers happy. They don't have to worry about FCC regulations. They don't have to adhere to play lists. They don't have to pay attention to the corporate bottom line. They broadcast what they love, and you can too." (p. 3, Podcasting: The Do-It-Yourself Guide.)
Or: "The podcasting movement is actually a spin-off of another communications boom: personal Weblogs...Podcasting combines the instant information exchange of blogging with audio files that can be played on a computer or MP3 player." (p. 11, Podcasting for Dummies.)

In Walks This Avatar, With a Thick Papery Thing:
General Tips
Not everyone has up-to-date equipment. Your patrons may not be able to follow you into Second Life.
If you start it, keep it current or take it down.
Be aware that "free" software may add ads, or involve hidden costs for support or storage space.
Don't forget about mischief makers. Open participation has its downside.
